Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of the River Region is pleased to announce Heather Metts will be honored as CASA Hero of the Year at Embrace a Child on Thursday, March 27th at The Olmsted. Metts is the Director of Financial Planning & Budgeting for LG&E/KU and the Immediate Past Board Chair for CASA of the River Region.
Metts first became involved with CASA by attending the Embrace a Child Breakfast ten years ago with a colleague, Kent Blake, who served as CASA's Board Chair. "The stories I heard were so compelling that I came back the next year to learn more about how CASA volunteers were changing the lives of children for the better," she shared.
As a mother of four, children's issues are close to her heart. When Blake's term of service was coming to a close, he asked if any leaders on his staff would step up to join CASA's Board and continue the company's tradition of supporting abused/neglected children in the community. Metts raised her hand with no hesitation. She joined the Board in 2017 and assumed the role of Treasurer the following year. Metts has shared her professional skills to help establish CASA's investment policies and worked as part of the Finance Committee to make strategic decisions to help improve CASA's overall financial position in the present and future.
Metts was voted Board Chair in January of 2023. When CASA's longtime CEO, William Myers, left at the end of that year, Metts led the Executive Search Committee to find his replacement, Jamie Noon, a contribution she views as a highlight of her service to the organization.
"Reflecting on the past year, one name instantly came to mind for this award," shared Nicole Cardwell, CASA's Director of Development. "Heather made herself available to our team consistently to ensure we had the resources and support needed to continue serving our children at a high level. Her leadership, expertise, and dedication are second to none."
Metts will be presented with the CASA Hero Individual Award at Embrace a Child on Thursday, March 27th, at The Olmsted, 3701 Frankfort Avenue in Louisville. The event will start at 9:30 am with a brunch buffet and networking. The program will begin at 10:30 am and include stories that demonstrate how CASA volunteers are making a positive impact in the lives of children in the seven-county service area of Jefferson, Bullitt, Shelby, Spencer, Henry, Oldham, And Trimble Counties.
This event is offered at no charge to attendees, but space is limited. Reserve your seats today here and be our guest on March 27th!
